In a futuristic society where woman cant reproduce anymore, and society is slowly crumbling this movie, Children of Men follows main characters, Theo Faron (Clive Owen) and Kee (Claire-Hope Asheity) as they try and escape to sea in order for Kee to give birth to her "miracle" baby, which could possibly hold the secrets to continuing life on Earth. This movie, filled with action due to the chaotic society allowed the audience to take a look into a possible future, that would have no future.
The movie when analyzed contained several biblical references-like the use of animals around Theo, as well as colours which enhanced the moods and feelings that the viewers had at certain times.
This movie, having been shot in the year 2006, but intended to show the future year of 2027 gives the audience an idea of what life could be like in 21 years. Children of Men, deals with a lot of political struggle, such as illegal immigration, terrorists and the possibility of the human race coming to a near end.
The movie shows an idealistic view on the end of the world as we know it, with people being forced into detainment camps or killed. Along with this the whole world is quickly turning into one large war zone.
Personally I overall enjoyed this movie due to the thrill yet fantasy approach that it had. The movie took the viewer on a roller coaster through war, terrorism, chaos, hope and ideas. I like how this movie specifically had many "what if" questions throughout which constantly left the viewer asking with rarely an answer to be found. The use of real sound also helped enhance the movie as it added lots of natural looking and sounding effects. For example the use of guns and bullets going off added to the intensity of each scene.
On the other hand I found the ending to be quite disappointing. The movie simply ends with a quick fade off, just before the boat finally reaches Kee and her baby, Dylan. I would have preferred a more descriptive ending such as finding out what happens in the future of this society, or at least an answer to the question, will woman ever reproduce again?
To end on a good note I did find this movie very enjoyable and interesting with a great set of actors and actresses. This movie was staged and directed very well, keeping the audience captivated the entire time.
